Well known for being Leicester's number 8, Gary Lineker actually played number 7 in this style shirt twenty one times. He played number 9 on sixteen occasions and number 8 thirt four times. So although famous for the number 8, in his early seasons it was a bit of a mixture. His first game was as number 7 as he was initially used as a winger, and it would be some time before he moved to being a goal poacher.
The number 7 would also have been worn by Pat Byrne, who arrived at the start of the 79/80 season, with an unknown pedigree and bushy moustache. The 7 would also have been used by Mark Goodwin, Paul Edmunds, Stuart Hamill and Jim Melrose.
